Yesterday, we attended the Black History Month Assembly. Students were to take notes on Michel Chikwanine's story of being a child soldier in the Congo in the 1990s. We will be using Michel's story to launch our introduction into Joseph Conrad's classic novella, "Heart of Darkness" (1906).
Today, we reviewed MLA citations, made sure students were registered to our class on turnitin.com, and recorded our choices for classic novels and why we picked them.
We also explored the TedTalk, "Digital Tattoos and Greek Myths". We discussed why we continue to make analogies and allusions to classic stories. We also explored the idea of universal themes.
Homework: Complete and submit the Review of Form assignment. Remember to both hand in the paper copy (with process work, rubric, and annotated text) AND to submit an electronic copy to turnitin.com.
Also read and take notes on the first ten pages of your classic novel.
