Classic Novel Package and Interview
Welcome to our independent study program. You will select a classic novel (written before 1985) to study independently. Don't worry! you'll have some time in class to read, ask questions, and to write about your selected classic. Click the link to read "What Makes a Novel Classic". Learning activities include making inferences and connections through close reading, asking questions about big ideas in literature, using graphic organizers to compare literature, note-taking and annotating of challenging texts, listening and speaking about literature, writing reader response journals to reflect on our reading and learning.

Many classic novels are available as ebooks for free on gutenberg.org. Just visit the site, look up the novel by author, title, or themes, and download the book in the format of your choice. You can read and annotate classic novels on most tablets, but I advise AGAINST trying to read a whole book on the tiny, tiny screen of your phone! Classic novels are also easily found in the school or public libraries and most bookstores. Also check your home library for hidden gems.
