Welcome to our unit on group spoken word performance. As the name suggests, students will learn how to use their voices, space, and bodies to create a audio performance. Students work in small groups to perform a ballad, a poem which tells a story. Learning activities will include studying the ballad form, making inferences, using close reading skills, identifying and explaining themes, asking inquiry questions, identifying and explaining rhetorical devices, watching and critiquing poetry performances, learning and experimenting with vocal strategies, and memorization strategies.
